CARD PHOTOSHOP TEMPLATE EDITING TUTORIAL

Step 1: Open a file using the Open command.

  1. Choose File > Open.
  2. Select the name of the file you want to open. If the file does not appear, select the option for showing all files from the Files Of Type (Windows) or Enable (Mac OS) pop-up menu.
  3. Click Open. In some cases, a dialog box appears, letting you set format-specific options.
Note:
If a colour profile warning message appears, specify whether to use the embedded profile as the working space, convert the document colour to working space, or reverse the embedded profile. For more information, see Photoshop guide.

Our Card Templates are created to be user-friendly – layers of the same type are grouped into folders.

Step 2: Check the size, bleeds, trim lines of the Template before creating your own card.

Every Template has the Guide layer which indicates bleeds and trim lines.

Note:
Bleeds and trim lines are set universal, but according to your printer, they may vary.

Refine guide lines to coincide with your required dimensions. It will be easier to make sure the text is inside the safe (green) area.

Note:
You will need to do this if the bleeds are different size than our Template only. Otherwise, the guide lines are set already for your convenience and quick work.

After setting your guide lines it’s time to start creating your card.

Delete Guide layer or just hide it (click on the eye icon next to it) so that it does not interfere with work.

Step 3: Insert your created picture.

To insert your artwork:

  1. Go to the Layers panel.
  2. Find a Photo Mask layer. For your convenience, this layer is highlighted in green.
  3. Click on the layer to select it. If the template has more than one photo mask, make sure you selected the right one.
  4. Open your picture in Photoshop. It will open in a new window.
  5. Use your mouse to drag the photo into the template window. It must appear in the place of the photo mask and cover its grey background.
  6. Adjust the size and position of the picture to your preference. Photoshop will create a new layer for your picture above the photo mask layer. Select it and make adjustments.

Step 4:  Edit text.

All text in our card template is completely editable, which means you can change the font, size, colour etc. For your convenience text layers are grouped into one folder named ‘Text’.

Note:
Some wording may be not editable, and this information will be provided in the description of the template.

To edit text:

  1. Go to the Layers panel.
  2. Find the folder ‘Text’.
  3. Open the folder and you will see all the text layers.
  4. Find the text layer you want to change.
  5. Edit text as desired.

Step 5:  Change the colour of a graphic element.

All graphic elements in our card template are completely editable, which means you can change the shape, size, colour etc. For your convenience, all layers containing graphic elements are grouped into one folder named ‘Graphic’.

To change the colour of a graphic element:

  1. Go to the Layers panel.
  2. Find the folder ‘Graphic’.
  3. Open the folder and you will see all the graphic elements’ layers.
  4. Find the element layer you want to change.
  5. Double-click the thumbnail on that layer to open the Colour Picker.

As you click colours in the Colour Picker, you’ll see a live preview of the selected colour on the shape. When you find a colour you like, click OK to apply the new colour to the shape.

Step 6:  Save your designed card.

Review your design.

Note:
Double-check the size, colours, bleeds, trim lines, texts and fonts of the Card before printing.
All Newborn Props shall not be responsible for any failure or printing errors.

If you are happy with the card save it in your preferred format for printing.

Note:
Save a copy of your file with all layers intact (Photoshop (.PSD) format) if you want to edit the original card template later.

Woo-hoo! Well done, dear Artist! Print those cards and be ready for your clients’ delights.

You matter more than the mess.

You matter more than the phone.

You matter more than the broken vase.

You matter more than my inbox.
